Types of Exotic Imported Wood Floors:
 

1.Solid - Solid constructed wood floor products ranging from 1/4" to 25/32" with some product of 1"
2.Engineered - Wood Flooring products constructed in various layers, with grain alternating in opposite directions giving this product more stability for installation in areas solid wood floor products can not be installed. This product comes in various ply's ( layers), most being 3-5 ply.

3.Acrylic Impregnated - Wood Floor products that the wood grain has been injected with an acrylic material making it very hard and durable, making this a good choice for high traffic areas such as restaurants, malls, and other high traffic areas. With the various colors and patterns this also can be used for in home installation.

 

Styles of Exotic Wood Flooring

 

Parquet- From European roots these products originally where 3/4" material and nail into place in large patterns. Today they can be glued onto concrete slabs in many patterns and species of 5/16" thicknesses. See Custom Wood Floors - Parquet

 

 

African BubingaPlank- Since early colonial times, Wide plank wood floors were the most efficient way to produce a suitable wood floor. Normally considered to be 3" and wider, up to 14". also see Plank Wood Floors

 

 

Strip - This is the staple of American domestic wood floors since the turn of the century. In 1 -1/2" & 2 -1/4" widths, mostly being 3/4 " thick with smaller variations down to 1/4"

 

 

 

 


Construction

 

Engineered wood flooring is produced in:
Strip - thickness of 5/16", 3/8", 1/2" 9/16" or 5/8" and in widths of 2" and 2-1/4" Plank - thickness of 5/16", 3/8", 1/2" 9/16' or 5/8" and in widths of 3" to 8"Parquet - one-piece wood tile available in 9" x 9" or 8" x 8" and other patterns

Solid wood flooring
Solid wood flooring is completely lumber. It is available in unfinished and pre-finished. Solid wood flooring is produced in:
Strip - in thicknesses of 1/2" or 3/4" in widths of 1-1/2, 2" and 2-1/4"
Plank - in thicknesses of 1/2" or 3/4" and widths of 3" to 8"

Unfinished: this product requires on site job sanding & staining/finishing with the stain and finish of your choice. These products vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Prefinished or Factory Finished: Stains & finishes of many type are applied at the factory, and are ready for installation. With today's ceramic finishes these products provide long lasting beauty and easy care, many with 25 year warranties.
